About Me

Janica Bohol

First Year Civil Engineering Student | Western Mindanao State University

The Intersection of Art and Engineering

My journey is driven by a deep-rooted passion for creativity and the built environment. As a student of Civil Engineering, I have always been fascinated by the complexity and strength of buildings. However, my perspective is uniquely shaped by my love for the arts. I find immense joy in drawing, painting, and sketching, and I believe these artistic skills are vital tools for a future engineer.

For me, a building is more than just a calculation of loads and forces. It is a canvas where technical precision meets visual storytelling. By bringing my interests in sketching and painting into my academic path, I aim to view infrastructure through a lens that values both structural safety and aesthetic beauty.

My Advocacy: Art in Infrastructure

I believe that architecture and civil design should transcend mere functionality. In many modern urban environments, structures have become soulless because they prioritize cost and efficiency over the human experience. My advocacy focuses on the integration of artistic expression into the built environment to foster community well-being and emotional resonance.

Drawing from the principles of human-centric design, I argue that the spaces we inhabit significantly impact our mental health and social interactions. According to research in environmental psychology, buildings that incorporate aesthetic variety, natural light, and artistic elements can reduce stress and increase a sense of belonging among citizens.

My goal is to champion functional art, where a bridge is not just a crossing but a landmark, and a building is not just a shelter but a canvas that reflects the culture and identity of its people. By blending my engineering studies at Western Mindanao State University with my artistic vision, I hope to contribute to a future where our skylines are as beautiful as they are safe.
